the cable modem has trouble maintaining a stable connection, turning it off and
then on again can fix the problem or overheat it.
Restart the
modem

recommend that you turn off the computer.
Then
turn off the cable modem by unplugging the power cord from the back of the
modem. Leave it unplugged for at least ten seconds, then plug it back in to the
modem.
It
takes a few minutes for the cable modem to go through all self-tests and to
reconnect to the Internet. Look for the Internet connection indicator light on
the front of the modem. If it is lit, connect your router and turn on your
computer.
Check if the
modem is overheating
If
a modem overheats, the internet connection may become unstable. If so, turn it
off and let it cool down. Then turn it on and test the internet connection. If
it's more stable, you'll either need to find a way to keep the cable modem
cool, or you may need to replace it.

1. If you have
not yet reset your router, turn off your computer and unplug the power cord
from the router.
2. Wait at
least 10 seconds and then plug the power cord back into the router.
3. Wait for the
indicator lights on the front of the router to stop blinking.
4. The blinking
lights indicate that the router is self-checking and connecting to the
Internet. Then turn on your computer.
